Fuel System & Fuel Injector Service

A fuel injector is just an electric valve that briefly opens to allow gasoline to spray into the air that is being inhailed byt the engine.  They're not much different from the valve that lets water into your washing machine, just more percise.

The fuel pump, driven by electricity, has to deliver clean gasoline to the fuel injectors at high pressure.  The computer assumes a certain amount of pressure to push the fuel through the fuel injectors.  Because dirty fuel injectors do not flow as much fuel as the computer expects, dirty injectors can cause hesitation, hard starting, engine missfire or other engine performance problems.

Because all quality gasolines have fuel injector cleaner in them, dirty fuel injectors are rare but by no means, unheard of.  Unfortunately, not all gasoline is of good quality.  Also, fuel injectors can get stuck in the open position, stuck in the closed postion or electrially fail so that the injector does not even try to open.  Also, many other thing can be wrong with an engine to make it feel like it's not getting enough gas.
