Transmission

If your vehicle acts like the transmission does not want to shift properly, THAT DOES NOT NECESSARILY MEAN YOU HAVE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS!

Even if  you aren't mechanically-savvy, you probably still understand that transmission problems are among the most expensive repairs required for your vehicle. Your transmission is a complex system of gears that transmit mechanical power to your engine, ultimately supplying the power to the wheels. The transmission converts the engine power so that it can supply high torque at low speeds, in addition to selecting which gears are appropriate based on the driving conditions.

This is especially true with automatic transmissions—by far the most popular transmissions found in the United States. Rather than using a clutch to engage the transmission, automatic transmissions use a torque converter (between the engine and transmission) to allow the vehicle to stop without stalling the engine and also helps to get quicker starts from a dead stop. In an automatic transmission, the gears are selected using a series of hydraulicly controlled clutches.  The hydraulics that apply and release the clutches are controlled by a computer.

Regulating the gear action while supplying the power is a demanding task, which is why it's important for you to contact us, your transmission service specialists, if you suspect transmission problems.

Here are some of the essential maintenance tasks we complete:

  • Test drive the vehicle to evaluate transmission performance
  • Inspect the transmission for external leaks
  • Check the transmission fluid for proper level and signs of contamination
  • Drain transmission
  • Replace the internal and external fluid filter (if equipped)
  • Refill Automatic Transmission Fluid with new fluid
  • Road test the vehicle after service

Transmission problems typically arise when regular service is neglected.  The transmission fluid:

  • cools the transmission
  • lubricates the moving parts
  • transmits the power through the torque convertor
  • engages the clutches
  • cushions the engagement of the clutches
  • allows just the right amount of clutch slip to provide smooth but firm shifts.

Heat, friction and normal wear and tear all contribute to the deterioration of the transmission fluid.  When the fluid is not changed frequently enough, the poor fluid condition can cause additional heat from friction, additional wear to the gears and clutches and can result in rough shifting, accelerated wear, and even complete failure. That's why it's essential that you turn to us to make sure that your transmission is lubricated and cooled by clean, quality transmission fluid.
